Love your website, keep returning to it for inspiration. We are doing major renovations at the moment and will use the “moss blue” you recommended in the all the bedrooms- cant wait to see the outcome. In the living areas we will use Antique white USA 1/2 strength in the main walls and am struggling to pair with the right white for the trims (doors, windows, and 1/2 wall height dado rails) – thinking “lexicon 1/2 strength” or natural white or white on white? Hoping you can advise. Thanks, ramona
Hi Ramona, Thanks for visiting the blog. I will be doing more regular posts so please keep coming back for little bites of inspiration. Hmmmm the right white is a bit difficult for your trims etc. I have Antique White USA in my home and I used the 1/4 strength for all trims as Antique white USA it has a slight pink undertone (dont panic you dont see this unless it is matched with the wrong white) and if you use Natural white (which is the perfect trim colour when not using with another “white”) its almost too close to 1/2 AW USA that it will look wrong. 1/2 Lexicon is not ideal either as it is cool white and you need a warm white. I would recommend to use either 1/4 or 1/8 strength AW USA. This will give you a crisp but not stark white and as it is made using same tint it will look just right against the walls. If you then change your wall colour at a later date, it will still be a great balanced white. I do love Moss Blue, hope you it looks fab in the bedrooms. I look forward to seeing some pics when you have done your reno. ~ Angie ~
I’m embarking on renovating and decorating our Queenslander style home in Brisbane. I love the Hamptons style and have put together a mood board for the living room with neutral browns and pale blue, and a touch of glamour with a pendant light. I’m stuck on the finish for photo frames for the living room – would you suggest white, timber or silver ( to tie back with the pendant light)?
PS Wish you were based in Brisbane – love your style and could really use your expertise!
Hi Di, great to hear from you, thanks so very much for reading the blog and for your question. Your timing is impeccable with this weeks posts focusing on how to create a photo gallery wall. I would suggest a mix of all the finishes you mentioned, white, timber and silver. I do prefer keeping the wood finish in a medium to dark stain. Have a look at India hicks house in the post – How to create a photo wall gallery part 1. Without seeing your home I imagine a wonderful Queenslander with light painted timber walls & ceiling that would very much like the house in the post. I used to have all the same colour frames but now am totally in love with using a mix. Keep visiting the blog in the next week for lots of inspirational images that will show you how to get that mix just right. Please send thru some pic’s of your reno soon. Angie x
Hi Di. I am a great lover of India Hicks home in the Bahamas. Unfortunately I live in a rather cold climate in Canada. Having said that, I need a white wall colour that will work in my sunny condo. I have no obstructions to my view 180 degrees. I also sit on a river. My furnishings are white and cream. I get full sun from 12:00 noon until 22:00 hrs. Any suggestions? Thank you do much. LesleyAnn
Hi LesleyAnn, Thanks for your email, however I am in Sydney and am in no way familiar with your light in Canada or your paint colours. Maria Killiam has a great blog called colour me happy and she is a Canadian. I know she has written about whites in her posts before. Cheers, Angie
Hi Di,
I have thoroughly enjoy reading your blog and would love your help. I am building a traditional weatherboard homestead in outback NSW and am thinking antique white USA on the interior walls and 1/4 strength on the trim (thoughts?) the exterior I am having dramas deciding on, at this stage I am thinking shale grey colourbond roof with woodland grey gutters and facia with maybe the same antique white USA and 1/4 strength for trim like the inside for the weatherboards??? Do you think this will look funny being the same Colour as the exterior? Is there another Colour combo that you would recommend?
Hope to hear from you soon
Sara
Sorry Angie, I did not mean to call you Di I was reading the above post while typing. So so sorry!
