If you have ever taken the time to select a colour, perhaps hired a professional colour consultant or even knocked on someones door to ask the colour of their house…then please please adhere to the following rule….
TO REPRODUCE THE EXACT SAME COLOUR AS YOUR PAINT CHIP OR SAMPLE PLEASE USE THE SAME BRAND OF BASE PAINT AS THE BRAND THAT CREATED THE COLOUR
If you have picked “Blue Moss” by Taubmans, then buy Taubmans paint. If you have chosen “Putty” by Porters Paints, then use ONLY Porters Paints. The colour you have chosen will only look like that colour if it is put in that brands base.
Please dont pick up a 4 litre tin of X brand because its on special and put in colour from Y brand. IT WILL CHANGE THE COLOUR.
Sometimes only a little…sometimes a lot.
They never question this at your local paint shop or paint section at the hardware store but it is a fact. I make this very clear to my clients and to their painters.
The only time I have ever had a client come back and say they were not as happy with the colour (ie “it just didn’t look the same as ….”) They used the wrong base paint.
If say you really like Dulux Wash & Wear 101 but like a Wattyl colour then at least buy a sample pot of Dulux and add your colour in and paint it out to make sure you are happy with the colour against your paint chip or sample.
